Patna: Patna Metro moved a step closer to becoming operational on Monday as the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Janak Kumar Garg, conducted the final trial run between New ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhootnath Road stations.
Officials said the inspection was successful and a detailed report would be submitted within two days, after which the inauguration date would be finalised. Sources indicated the metro could be launched as early as October 6 or 7, before the state assembly polls are announced.
Accompanied by senior officials including Abhay Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Urban Development and Housing Department, and Abhilasha Sharma, Additional Managing Director of PMRCL, Garg reviewed the depot, rolling stock, command centre, and passenger amenities across all three stations. “Public safety is the top priority, and all operational protocols must be strictly adhered to,” he told reporters.

The Red Line corridor, fully elevated and air-conditioned, will run from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., with services every 20 minutes. Each three-coach train will carry over 1,000 passengers, with facilities such as panic buttons, digital displays, and mobile charging points. Ticket prices will range from Rs 15 to Rs 30.
Metro stations will feature escalators, elevators, automated ticket counters, retail spaces, and special provisions for senior citizens and people with disabilities. While most works are complete, finishing touches at New ISBT and Zero Mile entrances are still underway.
The Patna Metro project, long seen as a crucial step in easing congestion and modernising urban transport in the capital, has now entered its final phase of clearance. Once launched, it will make Patna the first city in Bihar to have metro services.
