Patna: A new interchange station under the Patna Metro project, being built near Buddha Park close to the city’s main junction, is expected to emerge as the most important hub of the network, handling an estimated 66,000 passengers daily.
The three-storey station will function as an interchange for both Corridor One and Corridor Two of the metro system, offering direct connectivity to most major stations across the city. Officials say this is likely to significantly ease commuting and establish the junction area as a central transit point for the Bihar capital.
Designed across three levels, the station’s first floor will house ticket counters, security checkpoints and essential passenger facilities. Metro platforms will be located on the second and third floors, accessible via escalators and lifts. Separate platforms are being constructed for each corridor to ensure smooth passenger movement and minimise congestion.
Construction is currently at the utility test pit stage, aimed at identifying existing underground electricity, water and sewer lines. Large-scale excavation work is expected to begin once this process is completed.
Under the current plan, Corridor Two services, running from Patna Metro Station to the Patliputra Bus Terminal, will operate from the second-floor platform. Trains on Corridor One, which will connect Danapur to Khemichak via Patna Metro Station, will depart from the third floor. This layout will allow passengers to switch corridors without exiting the station.
Metro trains on both corridors will operate underground near Dakbungalow Chowk, running parallel at a depth of around six metres before reaching the interchange station. Trains approaching from the Akashvani side will rise from a depth of about 11–12 metres to the second floor, while those coming from the Vidyut Bhawan side will arrive at the third floor from a depth of roughly 23–24 metres.
The station will also be integrated into an extensive tunnel network. Three tunnels are planned to connect the interchange station, one of which, towards Akashvani, has already been completed. Excavation work for the remaining two tunnels, leading towards Mithapur and Bijli Bhawan, is yet to begin.
