Patna: The first 7.5km-long metro tunnel between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Junction has been completed as construction work on Patna Metro’s Corridor 2 continues.
The completed tunnel has been built for the up line, while work on the down-line tunnel is expected to be completed by October.
Metro services on the wider corridor, connecting ISBT and Patna Junction, are targeted to begin in 2028.
Work Continues On Remaining Tunnel And Ramp
Construction is also underway on a ramp connecting Rajendra Nagar and Malahi Pakri.
Work remains on 635 metres of the up tunnel and 587 metres of the down tunnel in the ramp section.
Tenders have also been issued for civil works, including track installation, electrical systems and other infrastructure, inside the completed tunnel.
Corridor 2 Covers 14.55km
The project forms part of Patna Metro Corridor 2, which has a total length of 14.55km.
Of this, 7.92km is underground, while metro operations are currently running on a 6.2km elevated section.
The elevated section includes ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath and Malahi Pakri stations.
The underground section will include Rajendra Nagar, Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, Patna University, PMCH, Gandhi Maidan, Akashvani and Patna Junction.
Khemni Chak Interchange Station Expected To Open In October
The Khemni Chak station, which will serve as an interchange between Patna Metro’s two corridors, is expected to become operational in October.
One route from the station connects towards Malahi Pakri under Corridor 2, while the other leads towards Mithapur under Corridor 1.
The three-level station will allow passengers to switch between the two metro corridors.
Khemni Chak–Mithapur Services Planned For 2027
Operations between Khemni Chak and Mithapur under Corridor 1 are planned to begin in June 2027.
The section includes a 3.1km elevated track, where six-coach metro trains are expected to operate.
According to the report, three six-coach metro train sets are being arranged on a lease arrangement and are expected to reach Patna by December.
The expansion of metro services is expected to improve connectivity across the city as additional sections of the network become operational.
