Patna: Construction work on the Patna Metro project has been accelerated, with metro stations set to be developed at the Zoo, Vikas Bhawan, and Income Tax Golambar. Authorities are planning traffic diversions on Bailey Road as portions of the corridor are expected to be cordoned off to facilitate construction activities.
The move comes amid renewed efforts to complete the project within the stipulated timeline. Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to expedite the work, following which construction activities are being carried out round the clock.
Traffic Diversion Plan Under Discussion
According to officials, a meeting was held between the traffic police, metro authorities, and representatives of the auto drivers’ union to discuss traffic management during the construction phase.
Chairing the meeting, Satish Kumar said metro stations are planned at the Zoo, Vikas Bhawan, and Income Tax Golambar, making it necessary to develop a practical traffic diversion strategy. He noted that these areas are likely to witness significant traffic pressure during construction.
Officials discussed various alternatives to ensure smooth movement of vehicles and minimise congestion on Bailey Road, one of Patna’s busiest arterial roads.
Focus on Public Convenience
During the meeting, traffic officials stressed that any diversion plan should prioritise public convenience and minimise disruption for commuters and commercial vehicles.
However, authorities said that a final route diversion plan has not yet been approved. Further consultations and assessments are expected before the arrangements are implemented.
The meeting was attended by the Traffic SP, Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) II, III, IV and V, the Metro Project Manager, representatives of construction agency HCC, and members of the auto drivers’ union.
Security Preparedness Reviewed
Separately, a high-level review meeting was held to assess security arrangements for the Patna Metro depot complex and stations.
The meeting was chaired by Nayyar Hasnain Khan, Additional Director General of the Bihar Special Armed Police.
Officials reviewed security preparedness, surveillance infrastructure, access control mechanisms and emergency response systems planned for metro facilities.
Following the review, Khan directed officials to maintain high standards of vigilance and security to ensure safe and uninterrupted metro operations once services become operational.
Metro Project Gains Momentum
The latest developments indicate a renewed push to advance the Patna Metro project, which is expected to improve urban mobility in the state capital. With construction expanding to key locations along Bailey Road, authorities are now focusing on balancing infrastructure development with effective traffic management and public safety measures.
