Patna: With the construction work of longest underground Patna metro network expected to start shortly, the biological park known as Patna zoo is set to face major disruption, with officials warning of changes to visitor access, ticketing arrangements and nearby traffic flows.
The upcoming station, which has already completed soil testing, will be built close to the zoo and is expected to become the longest underground station in the Patna Metro network.

Gate No 1 To Be Most Affected
Zoo authorities said Gate No 1, currently the busiest entrance for visitors, will face the maximum impact during the construction phase.
At present, three ticket counters operate across nearly 38 metres near the gate. Once construction barricades are installed, the available space is expected to reduce to only four metres.
Officials said nearly 34 metres of the area would remain blocked during the project period.
Disruption May Continue For Three Years
According to officials, the disruption around Gate No 1 may continue for up to three years. Queueing space for visitors purchasing tickets is also expected to reduce significantly once work starts.
Authorities said steps are being planned to minimise inconvenience to visitors during the construction period.
Traffic Diversion Plans Under Review
Traffic management proposals are also under consideration, including making nearby roads one-way and diverting vehicles through the airport side of the city.
As a result, zoo officials expect a rise in the number of visitors entering through Gate No 2.
Currently, Gate No 2 has two ticket counters. Officials said additional counters would be installed if visitor footfall increases.
Gates To Be Upgraded
Zoo officials recently met representatives of the metro construction company, who shared details of the proposed work. Following the meeting, modifications to both Gate No 1 and Gate No 2 were approved.
The entrances will be renovated with upgraded ticket counters, redesigned entry points, souvenir shops and cloakroom facilities.
Gate No 2 will also be reconfigured to create more space for visitors entering and exiting the zoo.
Longest Underground Station Planned
Officials said the station will be built 17 metres below ground level and will have a total length of 355 metres, making it the longest underground station in the Patna Metro system.
The two-level station will include ticketing facilities, escalators and lifts on the first level, while platforms serving trains in both directions will be located on the second level.
Plans also include six escalators, three lifts and a crossover track to allow trains to switch lines.
