Patna: Two alleged sharp shooters were injured in a late-night police encounter near Bihta in Patna district after a gunfight broke out between the accused and a Special Task Force (STF) team during a raid conducted on the basis of a tip-off.
The injured men, identified as Videshi Rai and Pappu Rai, sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were taken into police custody before being shifted to hospital for treatment. Officials said the encounter took place around 2am near the embankment area of Anandpur village in Bihta.
According to police, the STF had received confidential information that a group of criminals had assembled in the area to plan a major crime. Acting on the input, a joint police team launched a search operation and began surrounding the location.

Danapur DSP-2 Amarendra Kumar Jha said the accused allegedly opened fire after noticing the police cordon and attempted to flee the scene. Police retaliated, injuring the two men during the exchange of fire.
Authorities said several illegal weapons and cartridges were recovered from the spot following the operation.
The injured accused were first taken to the Community Health Centre in Bihta for primary treatment before being referred to AIIMS Patna due to the seriousness of their injuries. Both are currently under police supervision.
Police officials said the two men were wanted in multiple criminal cases, including murder and robbery, and had been under surveillance for some time. Raids are now being carried out to trace other members of the gang, while investigators continue to examine their criminal records and possible links to recent incidents in the region.
The encounter has triggered tension in the locality, with heavy police deployment continuing in and around the area.
Bihar Police have intensified operations against organised crime in recent months. According to officials, nearly 19 police encounters have been reported across the state over the past six months as part of an ongoing “zero tolerance” campaign against criminal activity.
