Patna: Work on multiple road infrastructure projects in Patna is progressing, with the Mithapur–Sipara elevated corridor emerging as a key initiative aimed at easing congestion and improving urban mobility.
The elevated stretch between Mithapur and Sipara is scheduled for completion by September, with most of the remaining work currently concentrated near the Sipara bridge along the New Bypass.
Final phase of construction underway
Officials said four girders have already been installed over the Sipara bridge, while two more are yet to be hoisted. Additional works — including casting and the installation of expansion joints — are expected to be completed by July, after which finishing work will begin.
Once operational, the elevated road is expected to significantly ease travel from Mithapur towards Punpun via Mahuli.
Project timeline and delays
The corridor forms part of the larger Mithapur–Mahuli elevated road project. While the Sipara–Mahuli stretch is already operational — accessible via a ramp near Bhupatipur — the current phase involves a 2.1km stretch between Mithapur and Sipara.
Construction had faced delays earlier due to design changes required by the National Highways Authority of India, which led to an extension of the structure by 65 metres before work resumed.
Work progressing on both ends
On the Sipara side, particularly north of the New Bypass, finishing work remains pending. Meanwhile, on the Mithapur side, activities such as slope pitching and installation of lighting fixtures are progressing rapidly.
A second elevated roadway is also being constructed above the existing road near the New Bypass, adding to the project’s scale and complexity.
Faster commute, reduced congestion
The elevated corridor passes over National Highway 30 and is expected to dramatically reduce travel time. Once completed, the approximately 9km stretch from Mithapur to Mahuli could be covered in just seven to eight minutes.
With a four-lane road extending beyond Mahuli towards Punpun, officials said the project is likely to ease chronic congestion, particularly in the Sipara area, and improve connectivity across eastern Patna.
Authorities said the full project is on track for completion by the end of September, marking a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing efforts to modernise its road infrastructure.
