Patna: With the monsoon season approaching, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified preparations to prevent waterlogging across the city. As part of the exercise, the Municipal Commissioner on Wednesday conducted a detailed inspection of several localities in Wards 22A, 22B, 22C and 23 under the Patliputra zone along with elected ward councillors.
During the inspection, the Municipal Commissioner interacted with residents and public representatives to assess recurring monsoon-related issues and directed officials to take immediate corrective measures.
Drainage Measures Planned for Shivaji Nagar
In Shivaji Nagar of Ward 22A, residents highlighted severe waterlogging caused by an unpaved road near a garden. Taking note of the issue, the Municipal Commissioner directed the Executive Engineer of the Patliputra Division to install hume pipes and strengthen the drainage network.
Officials were also instructed to carry out cleaning drives and level construction and demolition (C&D) waste scattered in the area to prevent water accumulation during heavy rainfall.
Road Improvement Ordered Near Pink Mahal Marriage Hall
Residents near Pink Mahal Marriage Hall reported that waterlogging frequently disrupts movement during the rainy season. The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to connect drainage chambers on both sides of the road and undertake road levelling work to improve water flow.
Ganga Vihar Colony Faces Open Chamber, Waterlogging Issues
During the inspection of Ganga Vihar Colony, several drainage chambers were found open and poorly maintained. Locals informed officials that the colony experiences significant waterlogging during monsoon showers.
An adjacent open field was also identified as a waterlogging hotspot. Officials were instructed to improve drainage arrangements in the field, close all open chambers and ensure regular desilting and cleaning of the drainage network.
Review of Road No. B Area and Anandpuri Drain
The Municipal Commissioner also reviewed the condition of the drainage system in the Road No. B area of Ward 22B and sought feedback from residents regarding water discharge arrangements.
In Ward 23, the Anandpuri drain was inspected and officials were directed to ensure its smooth functioning before the onset of monsoon rains.
Pumping Arrangements to Be Strengthened in Low-Lying Areas
Residents of the Ganga Apartment locality in Gosain Tola informed the inspection team that the area faces severe waterlogging whenever the water level of the Ganga river rises during the monsoon.
Officials were directed to keep pumping equipment ready and deploy pumps whenever required to facilitate quick drainage.
A similar review was conducted at Sadaqat Ashram and the Bihar Vidyapeeth campus in Ward 22C. Given the risk of flooding due to rising river levels, officials were instructed to maintain robust pumping arrangements in these locations as well.
Deadline Set for Ongoing Civic Works
The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to complete all ongoing road restoration and water supply pipeline expansion projects within the stipulated timeframe to minimise inconvenience during the monsoon season.
The Executive Engineer of the Electrical Division was also instructed to conduct night inspections and ensure that all street lights remain functional across the inspected wards.
Civic Body Focuses on Monsoon Readiness
The inspection forms part of the PMC’s broader monsoon preparedness campaign aimed at reducing waterlogging, improving drainage infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted civic services during the rainy season.
