Patna: Patna Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena carried out a comprehensive inspection of key city drains, including the Yogipur and New Bypass drains, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure proper water flow and timely maintenance.
The review included an assessment of the drains’ structural integrity, water flow capacity, and proposed action plans. On January 6, the commissioner also inspected the Kurji drain, evaluating its drainage system and capacity.
During the inspection, Meena highlighted the need for temporary or permanent diversions in the New Bypass drain area to accommodate construction work for the city’s metro project. Officials were instructed to implement these diversions swiftly and in line with technical standards, ensuring that drainage operations remain uninterrupted during the construction period.

The cleaning of the concrete Yogipur drain is reported to be progressing smoothly. The commissioner also visited the Badshahi drain, where a sluice gate is under construction near Bhutnath and Nandlal Chhapra. Officials were directed to complete the gate on schedule, coordinating with other agencies to prevent future waterlogging issues.
Meena further instructed that silt removal should be completed within 24 to 48 hours following drain cleaning. To monitor operations closely, the municipal corporation has established special teams consisting of Chief Sanitation Inspectors, City Managers, Junior and Executive Engineers, and other officers. These teams will oversee cleaning, coordination, and quality control across major drains, including Saidpur, Anandpuri, Kurji/Rajiv Nagar, Mandir, Serpentine, Bakarganj, Bypass, Yogipur, and City Mot drains.
