Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Friday carried out a large-scale anti-encroachment drive in the Kurji area, clearing around one bigha of encroached land along the Ganga riverbank.
The operation led to the demolition of illegal structures housing a Kia service centre and showroom facility, along with a Nissan service centre and showroom. Officials said both establishments were constructed in violation of National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines and applicable building bylaws, prompting enforcement action.
Early-Morning Operation with Heavy Deployment
The drive began at around 6 am under the supervision of Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena. Senior municipal officials, including additional and deputy municipal commissioners, along with executive officers of Patliputra, Bankipur, and Patna City zones, were present during the operation.
A team of 10 magistrates and around 100 security personnel deployed by the district administration were also stationed at the site to maintain law and order during the demolition exercise.

Officials used heavy machinery, including six JCB excavators, one Poclain machine, one Hydra crane, and a vibrator machine, to carry out the demolition and clear the area.
Ongoing Anti-Encroachment Campaign
The Kurji action is part of a wider anti-encroachment campaign being conducted across Patna over the past several days. Authorities said the drive is aimed at removing illegal occupation of government land and structures built in violation of planning norms.
As part of the ongoing operations, clearance work is also underway at land earmarked for ‘Ekta Mall’ near BD Public School in Buddha Colony. Officials stated that around 30 residential structures and five cattle sheds have already been removed from the site, while further demolition of unauthorised constructions is in progress.
Administration’s Position
The municipal corporation reiterated its commitment to continuing enforcement action against illegal encroachments, unauthorised construction, and violations of environmental regulations. Officials said similar drives will continue in other parts of the city in the coming days.
