Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation is undertaking a series of projects to expand and improve the city’s green spaces, ponds and public amenities, with new parks and renovated water bodies being developed across several municipal zones.

The projects are aimed at creating cleaner and better-organised public spaces that combine greenery with facilities for recreation, fitness, health, religious activities and community gatherings.

Pond-cum-park planned near Sun Temple

An area of around 3,364 square metres near the Sun Temple in CID Colony, Ward 8 of the Patliputra division, is proposed to be developed as a pond-cum-park.

The project is estimated to cost around Rs 1.71 crore and will include gardens, pathways, seating areas, drinking water facilities, toilets, lighting and a fountain.

Steps leading into the pond will also be constructed, providing improved facilities for local residents during religious and community events, including Chhath Puja.

The project will be taken up after administrative approval from the Urban Development and Housing Department.

Kachchi Talab restoration nearing completion

Restoration work at Kachchi Talab in the Nutan Rajdhani zone is nearing completion. The project has been taken up at a cost of around Rs 1.48 crore.

The pond was completely dewatered before being cleaned and desilted. Its base was subsequently strengthened using gravel, sand fill and stone boulders before the pond was refilled with clean water.

A boundary wall has been completed, while a Kota stone pathway, seating areas and steps providing access to the pond have also been developed. Lighting has been installed across the premises.

The renovated site is expected to provide residents with a cleaner and more organised public space.

60,000-sq-ft Dumdum Park to get new facilities

Dumdum Park in Shrikrishnapuri, under the New Capital zone, is also being developed over approximately 60,000 square feet.

The project has an estimated cost of Rs 2.45 crore and will include landscaping, green areas, modern seating, drinking water facilities and pathways.

The park is being planned as a space where residents can undertake morning and evening walks, exercise, relax and spend leisure time.

Sipara Park to come up in Mithapur

A major new park is also planned near the Directorate of Agriculture in Mithapur, Ward 30, under the Kankarbagh zone.

Named Sipara Park, the facility will cover approximately 14,717 square metres and is estimated to cost Rs 3.97 crore. The Municipal Corporation has already issued a tender for the project.

The park is planned to include a children’s play area, open gym, fountain with coloured lighting, gazebo, gardens, selfie point, artwork and seating facilities.

Drinking water facilities, modern toilets and ticket counters will also be provided, along with high-mast lighting.

The project is expected to provide children and young people with a dedicated space for recreation, sports and fitness.

Janata Flat park in Ward 46 being revamped

The park inside the Janata Flat complex in Ward 46 is also undergoing renovation at an estimated cost of around Rs 46 lakh.

The project includes a boundary wall, walking ramps and paved pathways made with paver blocks. A fountain and improved lighting are also planned.

The renovated park will provide residents with a more attractive space for walking, relaxation and leisure activities.

New park planned in Rajendra Nagar

A new park will also be developed near Shakha Maidan on Rajendra Nagar Road No. 5 in Ward 43, under the Bankipur zone.

The Municipal Corporation has issued a tender for the project, estimated to cost around Rs 1.50 crore.

The proposed facilities include an open gym, selfie point, fountain, high-mast lights, submersible pump, green lawn, benches, swings and shaded areas.

Drains, a boundary wall, guard room and toilets will also be constructed.

The park is expected to provide residents with a clean and safe space for family outings, children’s recreation and outdoor activities.

Focus shifts to multi-purpose public spaces

Through these projects, the Municipal Corporation is seeking to move beyond simply constructing or renovating parks and ponds.

The broader approach is to create multi-purpose public spaces where residents can access greenery, fitness and recreational facilities while also having better infrastructure for religious and community activities.

With projects spread across different parts of Patna, the Corporation’s plan is expected to add and upgrade several public spaces across the city’s residential neighbourhoods.
