Patna: The Bihar government is planning to develop a new bus stand near JP Ganga Path, Patna as the existing Bankipur Bus Stand, Patna is set to be vacated within a month to make way for a proposed hotel project.
Officials said around five acres of land north of the Ganga riverfront road has been identified for the new facility, from where government buses will operate.
Shift From Bankipur Underway
The move comes as authorities prepare to relocate bus operations currently managed from the Bankipur bus stand near Gandhi Maidan, Patna.
The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) has written to the district administration seeking formal allotment of land for the new bus stand.
Interim Arrangements In Place
Until the land is officially allocated, bus operations are being managed from multiple locations, including the multi-modal hub and the depot in Phulwari Sharif.
Some buses are already being parked near the Ganga Path and brought to Kargil Chowk during operational hours.
Expansion Of Bus Fleet
Officials said Patna currently has around 150 city buses, including CNG and electric vehicles, along with about 350 inter-district buses operated by the corporation and under public-private partnerships.
Under the PM-eBus Sewa scheme, around 400 new buses are expected to be added in the coming months, with a portion to be deployed within the city.
Land Identification And Survey
The Transport Corporation had formally requested land allocation earlier, and a survey team has since demarcated the proposed five-acre site in the Pahari area.
Officials said the land will be developed with basic infrastructure, including a boundary wall, to facilitate bus operations.
Plans For Integrated Transport
Private buses currently operate from the ISBT at Bairiya, and there are plans to extend government bus services from the same terminal for select routes.
Authorities said consolidating all bus operations at a single location remains a challenge, but the new facility near the Ganga Path is expected to improve accessibility and ease congestion in central Patna.
