Patna: Two individuals have been apprehended by the Special Task Force (STF) in connection with a firing incident in a Patna park, which reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a game of cricket. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at around 7.30pm in F Sector Park, located in the Kankarbagh police station area.
One of the accused, identified as Nikhil Kumar, a resident of Malahi Pakdi, has been arrested. According to police, Nikhil already has a case of firing registered against him at Patrakar Nagar police station. His accomplice has also been detained and is currently being interrogated.
Police say the violence was triggered after a group of local boys refused to let Nikhil join their cricket match. In response, Nikhil and his associates allegedly fired three to four rounds from a country-made pistol in an attempt to intimidate those present.
The incident caused panic in the area, prompting a swift response from local police. Upon arrival, officers found that the accused had fled the scene, discarding the weapon and their motorcycle in the park. Both items were later recovered.
Patna Sadar-1 DSP Abhinav stated that the identities of other individuals involved have been established and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest them. The police had initially begun their investigation by reviewing CCTV footage and questioning witnesses in the park, which led to the identification of three suspects.
STF teams were deployed to aid in the operation, resulting in the capture of Nikhil and one associate. During interrogation, the pair admitted to opening fire out of anger after being denied participation in the cricket game.
