Patna: Patna Police have applied for a production warrant to transfer notorious gangster Sheru Singh, currently lodged in Purulia jail, West Bengal, to the Bihar capital for interrogation in connection with the murder of gangster Chandan Mishra. Chandan was brutally gunned down on July 17 inside Paras Hospital, a case that has since sparked a broader crackdown on organised crime.
Sheru, a native of Buxar, has been named a non-bailable accused based on scientific evidence and statements made by arrested shooters Tausif alias Badshah, Balwant, and Raviranjan. Police say the gang was paid Rs 5 lakh each to carry out the killing. Authorities are also trying to recover the firearms used in the crime, as Chandan Mishra was shot 28 times.
The case has renewed attention on Sheru Singh’s violent criminal history, which includes a string of murders across Buxar and Bhojpur districts. His documented crimes include the killing of Anil Kumar Singh in Dullhapur (September 6, 2009), former Mukhiya Mohammad Naushad (March 10, 2011), coaching operator Hari Narayan Singh (April 11, 2011), Bharat Rai (April 20, 2011), jail clerk Haider Ali (May 4, 2011), Shivji Kharwar (July 26, 2011), and Mohd. Nizamuddin (July 31, 2011). On August 21, 2011, he allegedly murdered Rajendra Kesari, a lime trader from Bhojpur.
Sheru’s real name is Omkar Nath Singh. His father, Krishna Singh, is a retired sub-inspector from the Jharkhand Police, and his uncle, Deenbandhu Singh, currently serves in the Bihar Police. Despite this law enforcement background, Sheru began showing violent tendencies during school and allegedly committed his first murder as a teenager in his village.
Incarcerated in multiple jails over the years, Sheru’s criminal activities reportedly continued behind bars. While in Bhagalpur jail, he was accused of orchestrating an attack on a cousin in broad daylight, allegedly involving other family members. His uncle Deenbandhu and cousin Prabhakar Singh later surrendered in court in connection with that case.
