Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has stepped up its revenue enhancement campaign, combining property tax collection with new property assessments, reassessments and field inspections across the city.

On September 12, the civic body collected Rs 31.04 lakh in property tax from 478 property owners across its six administrative zones. The campaign is aimed at strengthening municipal revenue while ensuring that property tax records accurately reflect the actual status of properties.

Pataliputra Records Highest Number Of Taxpayers

Among the six zones, Pataliputra recorded the highest number of property owners from whom tax was collected, with 136 property owners contributing Rs 8.46 lakh.

Nutan Rajdhani recorded the highest collection, with Rs 11 lakh collected from 79 properties. Kankarbagh collected Rs 4.05 lakh from 91 properties, while Bankipur recorded Rs 4 lakh from 62 properties.

Azimabad collected Rs 2.69 lakh from 78 properties, while Patna City recorded Rs 77,000 from 32 properties.

The collections are part of PMC’s wider effort to improve tax compliance and expand its revenue base. The corporation’s official property-tax system also provides facilities for new assessments, self-assessment, property searches and online tax payments.

116 New Properties Assessed

As part of the campaign, PMC also completed tax assessments for 116 new properties.

Nutan Rajdhani recorded the highest number of new assessments at 32, followed by Kankarbagh with 26, Pataliputra with 24 and Azimabad with 21. Bankipur recorded seven new assessments, while Patna City accounted for six.

The exercise is intended to bring newly constructed or previously unassessed properties into the municipal tax system and ensure that applicable property taxes are determined.

29 Properties Reassessed

The civic body also reassessed 29 properties during the campaign.

Officials conducted field inspections to compare the actual condition of properties with the information available in municipal records. In five cases, discrepancies were found between the actual property status and the previously determined tax assessment.

These properties were subjected to fresh assessment, with penalties imposed according to the applicable rules.

PMC Appeals To Property Owners

PMC has urged property owners to voluntarily update their tax records if their properties have undergone construction, expansion or any other change after the original assessment.

Property owners have been advised to get their properties reassessed and update their tax details online. The corporation has warned that if field inspections reveal differences between a property’s actual condition and its recorded tax details, additional property tax along with applicable penalties may be recovered.

Revenue Campaign To Continue

The latest exercise comes amid a broader push by PMC to expand its property-tax base and improve revenue collection. Recent reporting said the civic body had added 4,771 new properties to its tax net during the current financial year, alongside reassessment efforts.

The ongoing campaign is aimed at improving compliance, identifying properties that are newly taxable or under-assessed, and strengthening the corporation’s revenue base for municipal services and development.
