Patna: Following continuous heavy rains, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) have been working on a “war footing” to drain water from the city. In most areas, water is being cleared in a minimal amount of time, a testament to the PMC’s proactive and alert approach.
Officials and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are actively monitoring various parts of the city to ensure effective drainage. The Municipal Commissioner, along with zonal executive officers and municipal managers, are conducting inspections to prevent waterlogging.
The PMC’s swift action is a direct response to the challenges posed by the weather. The corporation has already addressed about 740 complaints of water drainage problems from areas like Pataliputra Colony, Pataliputra Station, Kankarbagh, and Rajendra Nagar. In many instances, the QRTs have installed alternative pumps to quickly clear accumulated water.
Since the onset of the rains, a total of 19 QRTs have been deployed around the clock. These teams, composed of PMC and BUIDCO officials and workers, are operating from both the headquarters and zonal levels. The water levels of all sump houses are being continuously monitored, and the pumps are running non-stop to ensure rapid drainage. The PMC has also deployed workers in three shifts at all sump houses, and is using CCTV and walkie-talkies to monitor water levels.
The public is encouraged to report any waterlogging issues on the 24×7 helpline number, 155304, where complaints will be addressed within a few hours. The PMC has assured that it has adequate alternative arrangements and machinery in place to handle the situation.
