Patna: Construction of a crucial 14.5km stretch of the Patna Ring Road between Ramnagar and Kacchi Dargah is set to begin in April, after authorities resolved a prolonged dispute over land acquisition compensation.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has approved an enhanced compensation package for farmers, effectively clearing the final obstacle that had stalled the project for nearly a year. Farmers had been demanding higher compensation, leading to multiple rounds of negotiations with the Patna divisional administration.
Officials said a settlement was reached with a 1.75-fold increase over the originally fixed compensation rate, which has now been formally ratified by NHAI.
The six-lane corridor forms a key segment of the larger Amas–Darbhanga highway project (NH-119D), which is being developed in multiple phases. Once completed, the Ramnagar–Kacchi Dargah stretch will connect seamlessly with other ongoing sections, including the Ganges bridge approach linking Kacchi Dargah to Kalyanpur.
Authorities said the completed corridor would significantly improve connectivity between central Bihar and neighbouring regions, including Jharkhand, West Bengal and parts of the northeast.
The project requires the acquisition of more than 80 hectares of land. While an initial construction budget of Rs 465.46 crore had been approved, officials indicated that costs are expected to rise following the revision in compensation.
Speed Restrictions Imposed On Digha–Patliputra Canal Road
Separately, traffic restrictions have been imposed on the Digha–Patliputra canal road due to ongoing construction and safety concerns. The traffic police have advised motorists to avoid speeding along the route, where excavation and debris have narrowed sections of the road.
Officials said signboards have been installed to regulate traffic near Rupaspur on the Digha–Khagaul stretch, and drivers have been urged to avoid overtaking and maintain reduced speeds to prevent accidents.
The road widening project along this corridor is being undertaken by the state’s road construction department as part of broader efforts to upgrade Patna’s urban transport infrastructure.
