Patna: Tensions within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) spilled into the open on Saturday when a large group of party workers stormed the residence of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi in Patna, demanding that Makhdumpur MLA Satish Kumar be denied a ticket for the upcoming Bihar assembly elections.
The protesters alleged that Satish Kumar had failed to deliver any development in his constituency and ignored pressing public grievances. Chants against the MLA were raised outside Rabri’s residence, before hundreds of supporters forced their way into the compound.
The sudden commotion created chaos, with security personnel struggling to disperse the crowd. The standoff continued for a considerable time before calm was restored.
This marks the second public backlash against an RJD legislator in recent weeks. Earlier, Madhepura Sadar MLA Prof Chandrashekhar faced similar protests from disgruntled supporters.
State RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan downplayed the incident, saying, “There were no reports of disturbances outside Das Circular. Supporters often gather to express their views during election season. This happens across parties, not just in the RJD.”
With the Election Commission expected to announce the Bihar election schedule within days, ticket distribution has become a flashpoint across political parties. Similar signs of discontent have emerged elsewhere, including posters in Muzaffarpur’s Sakta declaring JD (U) MLA Ashok Chaudhary “missing” from his constituency.
