Patna: Patna’s Takht Shri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib Gurudwara, one of Sikhism’s most revered shrines, was at the centre of a dramatic security operation on Monday after an email claimed explosives had been planted inside its langar hall.
The mail, received on the Gurudwara’s official address, warned that RDX had been kept on the premises. The message sparked alarm among devotees and management, prompting the police and bomb disposal units to rush to the site.
Teams from Chowk police station, senior officers, the bomb squad and dog squad cordoned off the entire complex before beginning a search operation. Devotees inside were swiftly evacuated as barricades were put up around the premises, creating scenes of panic and confusion.
Cyber experts have begun investigating the origin of the email, with the police’s cyber cell tracking digital footprints to determine the sender. “A thorough probe is underway. We are not ignoring any possibility, and strict action will follow against the culprits,” said a senior officer. So far, no explosive material has been recovered.
The Gurudwara management expressed concern but praised the swift action of authorities. “Thousands of devotees visit every day from India and abroad. The threat of RDX created worry, but the timely response ensured devotees were evacuated safely,” said the management in a statement.
Takht Shri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, is one of the five Takhts of Sikhism and holds immense historical and religious significance. The threat to the shrine has placed local security agencies on high alert, with patrols and searches extended to surrounding areas.
The police have urged citizens not to spread rumours and to cooperate with the investigation. “Do not pay attention to hearsay. Security agencies are alert, and the culprits will not be spared,” said an officer.
