Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau on Wednesday raided the premises of Upendranath Verma, Executive Officer of the Rosera Municipal Council, in connection with a disproportionate assets investigation. The coordinated searches were carried out in Patna and Samastipur, lasting nearly seven hours.
According to Vigilance officials, the raid began around 1 p.m., conducted by a team of 11 officers travelling in three vehicles. The team included three DSPs, two inspectors, four sub-inspectors and two constables.
Cash, jewellery and 14 land deeds recovered
During the search at Verma’s Patna residence, officers recovered more than Rs. 10 lakh in cash and jewellery worth over Rs. 27 lakh. Officials also seized investment papers linked to several insurance companies, bank passbooks, and two vehicles — an Innova and a Swift Dzire.
The team additionally recovered three land deeds not previously listed in the FIR, bringing the total number of seized deeds to 14.
Images from the scene showed police personnel stationed around the property as officers sifted through documents and valuables.
‘A conspiracy against me’: Officer denies wrongdoing
Speaking after the raid, Upendranath Verma strongly denied the allegations, claiming the case was part of a “deep conspiracy”.
“I come from a farmer family. Whatever we have is family property. I will present all the documents before the court. I do not possess any ill-gotten wealth. I live on my salary and have only one bank account,” he said.
Assets allegedly exceed income by 86%
According to the Vigilance Bureau, Verma is accused of possessing disproportionate assets worth Rs. 1,16,90,319, which amounts to 86.3% more than his known sources of income.
The case adds to a growing list of corruption and disproportionate assets investigations across Bihar’s administrative departments between 2020 and August 2025, as the state continues tightening scrutiny on public officials.
