Patna: In view of the severe heatwave conditions prevailing in the state capital, the Patna district administration has ordered the closure of all schools up to Class 5 until May 26.
The directive, issued by District Magistrate Dr. Thiyagarajan SM, applies to both government and private schools across the district. Pre-schools and Anganwadi centres have also been directed to remain closed during the period.
According to the order, classes for students from grades 6 to 8 will continue but only until 10:30 AM each day.
Decision Taken as Precautionary Measure
The district administration said the decision was taken considering the adverse impact of excessive heat on children’s health.
Officials stated that prolonged exposure to high temperatures could pose serious health risks to young students, prompting the administration to implement precautionary restrictions on academic activities.
Instructions Issued to Officials
The District Magistrate has directed the District Education Officer, District Programme Officer (ICDS), all Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) to ensure strict implementation of the order.
Authorities have also appealed to parents to take necessary precautions to protect children from heat-related illnesses.
Heatwave Conditions Likely to Continue
According to the Meteorological Department, there is little possibility of immediate relief from the prevailing heat conditions over the coming days.
Patna and several other parts of Bihar have been experiencing rising temperatures and hot weather conditions, affecting daily routines and public movement.
