Patna: Jan Suraaj party founder Prashant Kishor has shifted his residence to an ashram in Bihta on the outskirts of Patna, saying he intends to continue his political campaign from there until 2031.
The 48-year-old former political strategist said he vacated his previous residence on the night of May 19 and had now moved to the newly established “Bihar Navnirman Ashram” near Indian Institute of Technology Patna.
According to Kishor, the ashram will serve as both his residence and the operational centre of the Jan Suraaj campaign over the next five years.
Political Activities To Be Run From Ashram
Officials associated with Jan Suraaj said the five-acre site, previously an orchard, is being converted into an ashram complex.
Preparations at the site reportedly include:
- Construction of an ashram campus
- Installation of more than 50 tents
- Facilities for organisational and political activities
Kishor said all future party activities and organisational work would now be conducted from the Bihta base.

Shift Comes After Electoral Setback
The move follows a difficult electoral debut for Jan Suraaj in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.
According to election figures:
- Security deposits of 233 out of 238 Jan Suraaj candidates were forfeited
- The party secured around 2% of the total vote share
- Jan Suraaj finished second in only one constituency — Marhaura
- The Marhaura result came after the NDA candidate’s nomination was rejected
Kishor’s home district of Rohtas also delivered disappointing results for the party.
In Kargahar, his own assembly constituency, Jan Suraaj reportedly secured only 7.42% of the vote and failed to retain deposits in any of the seven assembly segments in Rohtas district.

Appeal Against Caste And Money Politics
During his remarks, Kishor again appealed to voters in Bihar to move beyond caste and religion-based politics.
He urged people to prioritise their own future and that of their children while voting rather than supporting parties based on caste identity or monetary inducements.
Kishor also specifically appealed to women voters, asking them not to be influenced by prominent political figures including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar or RJD leader Lalu Prasad.
He said voters should avoid “selling votes” for financial incentives and instead focus on long-term development and governance.

Earlier Base Operated From Sheikhpura House
Before relocating to Bihta, Kishor had been operating from “Sheikhpura House” near Patna airport.
The residence belongs to Uday Singh, also known as Pappu Singh, a former MP from Bihar and the national president of Jan Suraaj.
Kishor expressed confidence that Jan Suraaj would continue expanding its support base ahead of future elections and claimed the party could still play a meaningful role in Bihar’s political landscape in the years ahead.
