Patna: The Bihar government is set to roll out a new digital initiative aimed at preparing students in government schools for competitive exams. Beginning later this year, nearly three lakh students in classes 10, 11 and 12 across Patna district will receive online coaching in core subjects and exam preparation.
Classes will be conducted in 75 ICT labs equipped with computers and large-screen televisions, with backup power provided through batteries and inverters to prevent disruption. The initiative is designed to help meritorious students from economically weaker backgrounds pursue careers as doctors, engineers and civil servants.
A key feature of the scheme is its academic collaboration with IIT Kanpur, whose faculty members will contribute to online teaching in mathematics, physics, chemistry and English. For students pursuing medical careers, lessons will also include biology and botany.
According to the District Education Office, the Education Department will soon sign an agreement with IIT Kanpur to formalize the partnership. Additional agreements will be drawn up with other expert institutions to provide coaching for non-science students, particularly those aiming for competitive exams such as SSC and railway recruitment tests.
Classes will be held after regular school hours, Monday to Friday, with weekly tests to assess progress. Outstanding students will be identified and offered additional support to maximize their chances of clearing exams on their first attempt.
Education officials said the project reflects a broader effort to strengthen ICT infrastructure in schools and to ensure equal access to high-quality coaching for government school students.
