Patna: Patna’s Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Science City, a long-awaited project designed to promote science education and innovation, is set to open its doors to the public with the completion of two more galleries. Built by the Building Construction Department on 20.5 acres near Moinul Haque Stadium, the complex is being positioned as a unique centre for science learning in Bihar.
The Science City will house five thematic galleries: the BA Scientists Gallery, Basic Science Gallery, Sustainable Planet Gallery, Space and Astronomy Gallery, and Body and Mind Gallery. Together, these will cover about 7,725 square metres and feature 269 exhibits based on 26 themes.
In the first phase, exhibits have been fully installed in the BA Scientists Gallery and partially in the Basic Science Gallery. Visitors will be able to explore displays such as harmonic strings, ripple tanks, and 3D zoetropes, as well as modern themes like artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analysis.
Secretary Kumar Ravi said the facility would be “a magnificent and unique centre for learning and understanding science and technology.”
The atrium has also been developed with a statue of Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, digital panels, murals and selfie points. A 3D auditorium for science films, a cafeteria, drinking water facilities, toilets and parking have been added for visitor convenience.
A major highlight is a 500-seat auditorium and a dormitory capable of hosting 150 students and three teachers, designed to accommodate school groups arriving for educational tours. The campus will also feature a 4D theatre, pre-functional hall and multipurpose hall.
Officials said the Science City is expected to attract students, researchers and families, providing a hub for interactive learning and sparking curiosity among young people.
