Patna: The authorities in state capital city Patna have stepped up efforts to complete sewerage infrastructure and restore dug-up roads across key areas of the city ahead of the upcoming monsoon, aiming to minimise disruption for residents.
The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has completed the laying of 3,843 metres of sewerage pipeline across Digha and Kankarbagh. With the installation work largely finished, the focus has shifted to restoring affected roads to ensure they are safe and accessible before heavy rains arrive.
A list of 10 roads, where pipeline work was completed, has been handed over to the Road Construction Department (RCD) for urgent restoration. Officials say the move is intended to streamline repair work and avoid delays during the monsoon.
Animesh Kumar Parashar, managing director of BUIDCO, has directed agencies to complete restoration work within stipulated timelines. He emphasised that roads excavated for sewerage installation must be rebuilt immediately after work concludes to prevent inconvenience to the public.
The identified stretches in Digha include Boring Canal Road (929.4m), Patel Nagar Marg (267.5m), Rajiv Nagar Main Road (498m), and a short rising main stretch from BIADA (Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority) Gate to Rajiv Nagar underpass (27m). In Kankarbagh, the roads listed include Kendriya Vidyalaya Marg (350m), L-Sector (357m), Mediversal Hospital Road (270m), a rising main near Bhootnath drain (512m), Ganga Devi Path (356m), and Gayatri Mandir Marg (276m).
Under the Digha-Kankarbagh sewerage project, responsibility for restoring roads has been divided between agencies. Roads under the RCD will be repaired by the department itself, while those under the Patna Municipal Corporation will be restored by contractors engaged by BUIDCO. Officials noted that restoration clauses are already built into agency contracts, requiring roads to be returned to their original condition after construction.
The accelerated push reflects concerns over waterlogging and traffic disruption during the monsoon, a recurring issue in several parts of Patna.
