Patna: The bodies of a former husband and wife were recovered from the banks of the Dhobi river in Laxmanpur village under Bakhtiyarpur police station area on Friday. Police suspect the duo may have been murdered over illicit relations.
Complaint Filed Before Bodies Were Found
According to officials, on September 11, Laurik Kumar, the second husband of Veena Devi (25), lodged a complaint alleging that his wife had been kidnapped by her first husband, Sanoj Kumar (35). A day later, villagers spotted the bodies on the riverbank, triggering panic in the area.
Police Investigation and Forensic Probe
Locals told police that the condition of the bodies suggested the deaths may have occurred one or two days earlier. Acting on the information, a police team reached the spot, and the bodies were sent for postmortem. A forensic team has also been engaged to collect evidence.
SP Rural Vikram Sihag said, “All aspects of the incident are being investigated. Different police teams are working on the case, and the accused will be arrested soon.”
Background of the Victims
Veena Devi had first married Sanoj Kumar about five years ago. However, the marriage soured, and she returned to her maternal home. Just a month ago, she remarried Laurik Kumar, a resident of a nearby village in Bhagalpur.
Police sources said Veena continued to meet her first husband even after her second marriage, which may have led to tension. Sanoj was reportedly already married and had two sons.
Family members of the deceased were seen waiting near the postmortem house as police intensified their investigation.
