Patna: Patna police have carried out a forensic reconstruction of the crime scene in connection with the suspicious death of a Class 12 student in Danapur, as investigators attempt to determine whether she died by suicide or was pushed from a building. The exercise involved dropping life-sized dummies from the seventh floor of the apartment where the incident took place, officials said on Tuesday.
Police prepared three dummies matching the student’s height and weight to replicate possible scenarios. The dummies were dropped in different ways to analyse fall trajectory, injury simulation and impact position. Investigators said the reconstruction would help forensic experts compare the results with medical findings and physical evidence from the scene.
The postmortem report did not find any signs of sexual assault, but it failed to conclusively establish the exact cause and circumstances of death. Officials said the lack of definitive forensic conclusions had made it necessary to reconstruct the incident. The exercise was conducted in coordination with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), with experts observing how different fall scenarios could explain the injuries and body position recorded during the initial investigation.
CCTV footage from the coaching centre has become a key piece of evidence. The footage shows the student climbing the stairs towards the upper floors shortly before the incident. Two young men are seen following her moments later. The video also reportedly captures the fall, after which the two individuals are seen returning downstairs, raising questions that investigators are now examining closely.
The student’s family has alleged that she was sexually assaulted and then pushed from the building, claims that police say remain under investigation. Four people, including a carpenter and a security guard employed at the apartment complex, were detained for questioning. However, officials said no conclusive evidence has yet emerged linking them directly to the death.
Police said the crime scene reconstruction is a critical forensic step that could help establish whether the death was the result of suicide, an accidental fall or homicide. Investigators added that further forensic analysis, combined with CCTV evidence and witness statements, would be key to determining the sequence of events and establishing accountability.
