Patna: The safety of student hostels in Patna has been called into question after a 12th-grade student was kidnapped using a fake delivery scam. The victim, who lives in a hostel in the Krishnapuri area, received a phone call at 1 PM telling him to come downstairs to collect a parcel. Instead of a delivery driver, he was met by four men, including a former classmate. When the student tried to run back inside, the men pulled out a gun and forced him into a car.
The group drove the boy to an apartment rooftop in the SK Puri neighborhood, where they began a series of brutal attacks. The student told police that he was badly beaten and stripped of his clothes. The attackers used their phones to record a video of the assault, which they said they would use to blackmail him. During the ordeal, the men also allegedly attempted an unnatural sexual assault and threatened to kill the teenager if he told anyone what had happened.
Before the student was allowed to leave, the gang robbed him of his gold chain, a Bluetooth device, and 5,000 rupees in cash. They told him that the video would be posted online unless he paid them a “monthly fee” to keep it secret. The student managed to escape the area and went straight to the local police station to report the crime. His bravery in coming forward has helped the police identify the primary suspects involved in the plot.
The Patna police have now filed a formal case and are searching for the four men. Officers are looking into the background of the former classmate who was allegedly part of the gang. This incident has caused a lot of fear among other students living in the city. The police have warned students to be very careful when meeting strangers for deliveries and to always stay in crowded, well-lit areas.
