Patna: Patna police are investigating a swift and audacious theft in the city’s Gaurichak area, where robbers escaped with nearly Rs. 15 lakh in cash and valuables within ten minutes on Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, the thieves broke into the third-floor flat of Roshan Kumar, a paint trader, when his mother briefly stepped out. CCTV footage shows the culprits cutting the lock and entering the apartment before calmly looting cash, gold, and silver ornaments.
Interestingly, the footage also captured a moment of hesitation—one of the thieves fled after hearing a barking sound from the security camera, mistaking it for a real dog. Minutes later, realising it was only a camera alert, he returned and completed the heist with unsettling confidence.
Roshan Kumar suspects insider involvement, hinting that the security guard may have been complicit. “Three men had entered the building claiming to be electricians working on the sixth floor. The guard didn’t question them further,” he told police.
Police officials confirmed that three suspects, dressed as labourers, were clearly visible in the footage, though they have not yet been identified. “Raids are underway to trace the culprits,” said Gaurichak station officer.
The incident has triggered panic among residents of the apartment complex, already on edge after a series of thefts in the area.
