Patna: The chill of winter and dense morning fog have emboldened thieves in Patna, with residents reporting a surge in burglaries across the city. In one recent incident, a locked house in the Ramakrishna Nagar area was broken into, with valuables worth several lakhs of rupees stolen.
The victim, Lalita Devi, had been away at her parents’ home in Phulwari Sharif for three days. Police say the burglars first scouted the house before striking late at night, fleeing with jewellery and cash.
CCTV footage captured the thief leaving the property around 2am, carrying two suitcases packed with stolen goods. The images have provided a crucial lead for the Ramakrishna Nagar police, who have launched an investigation. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has also been summoned to examine the crime scene.
Residents expressed growing concern over safety in the area, noting that thefts appear to rise with colder weather. “If the capital city is not safe, one can imagine the situation elsewhere,” said a local. Police have assured the public that they are working to identify the culprits from the CCTV footage and expect arrests soon.
