Patna: Three Cops Critical After Speeding Scorpio Rams Into Police Checkpoint on Atal Path

Patna: A tragic incident unfolded late Wednesday night on Atal Path in Patna when a speeding Scorpio SUV ploughed into police personnel conducting a routine vehicle check. The crash left three police personnel critically injured.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the SK Puri police station limits, during a citywide vehicle checking drive. According to officials, a Scorpio travelling at nearly 90 km/h rammed into another Scorpio that was already stopped by police near a barricade, violently knocking down the officers present at the scene.
The injured include Komal Kumari, a constable posted with the Dial 112 emergency response team, Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Awadhesh Kumar. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital. Their condition remains critical.
Eyewitness Video Surfaces
CCTV footage of the collision has surfaced on social media, showing the moment of impact. The video shows the team checking a Scorpio belonging to Prince Kumar, a resident of Ghosi Bhakra in Jehanabad, when another high-speed Scorpio slammed into the scene. Prince, who was also injured, was en route from Patna to his hometown when the crash happened.
The SUV that hit the officers bore registration number BR 01 HT 8437 and was reportedly adorned with a BJP party flag, though police have not yet confirmed any political link to the vehicle or its occupants.
Driver Absconding, Two Detained
Police have taken two individuals into custody for questioning, while the driver of the speeding Scorpio is absconding. Raids are being conducted to trace and arrest him.
“Vehicle checks were underway from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the capital and across the district. The accident happened during one such routine operation,” SSP Avkash Kumar said. “We are investigating the case, and strict action will follow.”
The Patna Police have launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, including the identity of the absconding driver and the reason for the vehicle’s excessive speed. The role of the vehicle’s occupants is also under scrutiny.
