Patna: Vehicular and pedestrian movement on a stretch of Ashok Rajpath near Gaighat Crossing in Patna City will remain prohibited on Thursday and Friday as authorities undertake demolition work related to the old Mahatma Gandhi Setu.
According to local officials, the designated agency began preparations on Wednesday night to remove the dilapidated railings and footpath sections of the old bridge. The restrictions have been imposed as a safety measure during the operation.
Diversions in Place
Authorities said pedestrians and vehicles travelling through the affected stretch will be redirected through U-turn points located on the northern and southern sides of the Gandhi Setu to access Ashok Rajpath.
The revised traffic arrangement will remain in force until the debris generated during the demolition work is cleared from the site.
Indrajit Kumar, officer-in-charge of the Gaighat police post, said the restrictions are necessary to ensure public safety during the removal of damaged structures.
Routes for Commuters
Officials advised commuters travelling from the Alamganj side towards Patna City via Ashok Rajpath to take a U-turn at Gaighat and proceed through the route behind the Sudha booth located on the left side.
Similarly, commuters travelling from Patna City towards Alamganj via Ashok Rajpath have been directed to take a U-turn from behind the Traffic Outpost (TOP) on the left side and pass beneath the bridge before rejoining Ashok Rajpath.
Police Deployment and Enforcement
The Traffic Outpost in-charge said sufficient police personnel will be deployed at key points to regulate traffic and prevent congestion during the diversion period.
Authorities also announced that action will be taken against tempo drivers who stop unauthorisedly near the bridge on both the eastern and western sides of Ashok Rajpath. Officials said the measure is aimed at maintaining smooth traffic flow and minimising disruptions during the two-day operation.
Commuters have been advised to check the revised traffic routes and allow additional travel time while planning their journeys through the area.
