Patna: Patna will see extensive traffic restrictions and route diversions during Ram Navami, as authorities prepare for heavy footfall at the iconic Mahavir Mandir.
Officials said vehicular movement around Patna Junction will be largely prohibited from 8pm on March 26 until 11pm on March 27, with only emergency services such as ambulances and fire tenders exempted.
Under the revised plan, traffic from R-Block towards the GPO and the station will be suspended, while key stretches including Dak Bungalow crossing to the junction and areas beneath the Buddha Marg flyover will remain closed. Parking has been banned entirely around the station roundabout.
Controlled Access for Devotees
Authorities have introduced a regulated entry and exit system for worshippers visiting the temple. Devotees carrying prasad will be allowed entry only through the western gate of Veer Kunwar Singh Park, from where they will proceed in queues via the GPO roundabout to reach the temple.
After offering prayers, visitors must exit towards Dak Bungalow or Goria Toli Road. Entry via Buddha Marg has been disallowed, while designated areas in the park will be used for stalls selling offerings and garlands.
Additional Curbs During Processions
Further restrictions will come into force from 5pm on March 27 during the arrival of ceremonial processions. E-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws will be barred on the stretch between Boring Road crossing and the Income Tax roundabout.
Passengers heading towards Gandhi Maidan have been advised to take the Boring Road–Rajapur Bridge route, while those travelling to the railway station should use the R-Block GPO or Chiraiyatand flyovers.
Advisory for Rail Passengers
Travellers have been urged to use the Karbigahiya side entrance of the station to avoid congestion. Vehicles approaching from Goria Toli and Karbigahiya will be required to take a U-turn near Jamal Road, while those coming from Dak Bungalow must divert via Exhibition Road before looping back.
Alternate access has also been provided via Kotwali and Buddha Marg through the GPO railway overbridge.
Parking and One-Way Movement
Designated parking spaces have been arranged at Miller High School grounds, the Road Transport Corporation premises, and along Veer Chand Patel Path, with additional facilities at Maurya Lok complex and Buddha Smriti Park for two-wheelers.
Traffic police have also imposed one-way movement on Adalatganj Road (east to west), while restricting vehicle entry from Veer Chand Patel Path and barring access to areas east of the station roundabout up to Veena Cinema Road.
Authorities said the measures are aimed at ensuring crowd safety and smooth movement during one of the city’s busiest religious occasions.
