Patna: Patna will see major traffic changes during Durga Puja and Dussehra as thousands of people are expected to visit pandals and take part in celebrations. The city’s traffic police have announced a new plan that will be in place for four days, from 3 pm on September 29 to 10 pm on October 2. Several roads will be closed for normal traffic, and special routes have been marked for small vehicles.
Only emergency vehicles like ambulances, fire brigades, hearses, and those with special passes will be allowed on the restricted roads. Buses, trucks, tractors, Tata-407s and other heavy vehicles will not be allowed inside the municipal area from September 29 to October 1. Even vehicles used for metro and construction work have been banned from September 26 to October 3. The police say this is necessary because of the heavy crowd expected during the festival.
The plan covers 28 major roads. Small vehicles heading to the airport from Nehru Path will go via Ruknpura and Rajabazar Overbridge. Roads around Dak Bungalow, Kotwali, and parts of Ashoka Road will stay closed to normal vehicles. A one-way system will be in place from Gaighat to Chowk Mor and then to Didarganj. Roads such as Govind Mitra Road, Sabzibag Road, and Nala Road will have restrictions on movement.
Parking has also been strictly controlled. No parking will be allowed around Gandhi Maidan, Fraser Road, Veerchand Patel Path, Patna Museum and several other busy areas. Special parking zones have been arranged for two-wheelers and small vehicles at open grounds near Patna City, including land near City School Chowk, Mangal Talab, and Patna Sahib Railway Station.
Traffic SP Aparajit Lohan has requested people to follow the new rules, avoid unnecessary parking, and cooperate with police officers. He said that these changes have been made to prevent traffic jams and to make sure that everyone can enjoy Durga Puja and Dussehra safely and peacefully.
