Patna: Six members of a vehicle theft gang, including the alleged ringleader, were arrested by Patna police in Raghopur, Vaishali, on Monday, following a series of bike thefts across the city. Authorities recovered 13 stolen motorcycles hidden in a local hut.
The accused have been identified as Raja Kumar, Mithun Kumar, Vikas Ram, Kanchan Kumar, Vrajnath Kumar – all residents of villages in Raghopur – and Kundan Kumar, who had been living in a rented house in Beohar. The gang is reported to have connections across Patna, Vaishali, and other districts, police said.
City Superintendent of Police Diksha stated that investigations have revealed the identities of other gang members, with raids underway to apprehend them.

The case came to light on Saturday when a complaint was filed at Gandhi Maidan police station reporting a stolen bike. CCTV footage led investigators to Raja Kumar. During interrogation, he admitted to leading the gang and disclosed information about other vehicle thefts, leading to the recovery of 13 stolen motorcycles and the arrest of five accomplices.
According to police, the gang targeted areas including Gandhi Maidan, Pirbahor, Kadamkuan, and Agamkuan. They would travel from Vaishali to Patna, stay in lodges or rented rooms, steal motorcycles, and return to Raghopur to hide the bikes. Stolen vehicles were then re-registered with new number plates and sold for Rs 15,000–20,000 each.
Investigations suggest the gang has sold more than 100 bikes in recent months. Each member had a distinct role: some conducted reconnaissance, others carried out the thefts, and the remainder concealed and transported the stolen vehicles. Proceeds were reportedly divided among gang members.
