Patna: Amid severe heat conditions and rising demand for drinking water, the Patna Municipal Corporation has intensified monitoring of water supply projects and ordered an expansion of emergency water distribution measures across the city.
On Wednesday, the Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena reviewed the progress of pipeline and boring projects under the Water Supply Division during a meeting with Assistant and Junior Engineers at the civic body headquarters.
Deadline Set for Completion of Road Excavation Works
Keeping the upcoming monsoon season in view, the Municipal Commissioner directed officials to ensure that all ongoing projects involving road excavation are completed by June 10.
Officials were also instructed to maintain regular inspections and monitoring of pump houses to ensure uninterrupted water supply operations during the summer months.
Water Tanker Fleet to Nearly Double
The civic body currently operates 13 water tankers, each with a capacity of 3,600 litres.
In response to increasing summer demand, the Municipal Commissioner directed officials to expand the fleet to 25 tankers by hiring additional vehicles on rent.
Authorities were instructed to prioritise deployment in densely populated localities and areas facing high water demand.
The Commissioner also ordered:
- Daily cleaning of tankers
- Fresh refilling of water every day
- Proper sealing of tanker lids to prevent contamination
Tankers Deployed Across Key Areas of Patna
According to officials, water tankers are currently stationed at several locations across the city, including:
- Gardanibagh Road No. 2 near the pump house
- Shivpur Mahendru behind the post office
- Near Dak Bungalow crossing
- Gyan Bhawan
- GPO area
- Hartali Mor
- Aaykar Golambar
- Near Deep Nagar Pump House
Additional reserve tankers are being deployed whenever required at locations such as:
- Gandhi Maidan
- Examination centres
- Major public events
- Areas affected by water boring failures
Officials said four tankers will be stationed at Gandhi Maidan during Bakrid arrangements.
Water Network Continues to Expand
The Patna Municipal Corporation currently operates:
- 186 pump houses
- A water pipeline network spanning nearly 120 kilometres
Officials said the network is being continuously expanded under multiple projects to meet the growing demands of the expanding city population.
