Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has initiated a focused campaign to tackle the persistent issue of waterlogging in the city, particularly exacerbated by the recent rains. The drive comes after inspections revealed that a significant amount of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste was obstructing manholes and drains in various areas, intensifying the problem during monsoon season.
Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, who personally oversaw drainage efforts across the city, noted a particularly high concentration of C&D waste in the Kankarbagh area. This debris, he observed, was a major impediment to efficient water flow, leading to severe waterlogging.
Five-Day Campaign to Clear C&D Waste
In response, the Municipal Commissioner has issued directives for all zones to launch a special five-day campaign aimed at completely removing C&D waste from all 75 wards of the city.
Key instructions for the campaign include:
- Deployment of special cleanliness teams equipped with machinery like JCBs and trucks in each ward to facilitate waste removal.
- Prioritization of the Kankarbagh area due to the extensive debris found there during recent inspections.
- Officials are mandated to ensure that no construction company or individual disposes of C&D waste improperly in public places or drains in the future.
- Strict action will be taken against any violators of these regulations.
Public Appeal for Cooperation
The Patna Municipal Corporation has also appealed to citizens to cooperate by refraining from dumping construction debris in public areas or drains. Residents are encouraged to report any such violations or issues by contacting the Patna Municipal Corporation helpline at 155304. The corporation emphasizes that public cooperation is crucial for maintaining effective drainage and preventing future waterlogging challenges.
