Patna: Residents in parts of Patna’s Danapur area say they have been stranded in waist-deep water for more than 10 days following heavy rainfall, with municipal authorities accused of failing to respond.
From Saguna More to Khagaul Road, and Nageshwari Nagar to the Judges Colony in RPS More, streets remain submerged. Locals report snakes swimming in the stagnant water, fuelling fears of disease and injury.
Waterlogging in Nageshwari Nagar, Ward 11, is a long-standing problem that worsens during the monsoon. In Judges Colony, residents say conditions have become unbearable, with children and older people unable to leave their homes.
Residents allege that repeated calls to Danapur municipal council’s executive officer, Pankaj Kumar, have gone unanswered. Ward councillors, they claim, cite “lack of resources”, despite annual allocations for drainage running into crores of rupees.
Some locals now plan to file a complaint under the Public Grievance Redressal Rights Act, questioning why state authorities’ assurances that waterlogging will clear within hours have not been met.
The flooding has disrupted daily life, forcing children to wade through dirty water to reach school and commuters to carry shoes in hand to work. Shopkeepers report a sharp drop in customers due to the stench and standing water, impacting livelihoods.
Residents are demanding urgent action and accountability, saying officials can no longer dismiss waterlogging as an inevitable “result of rain”.
