Patna: Patna has been receiving steady, widespread rain since early Wednesday morning, bringing relief from humidity but also leaving several city roads waterlogged and slowing down traffic. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says the wet spell is part of an active monsoon phase affecting multiple districts in Bihar, and showers are expected to continue into the evening.
Apart from Patna, rain bands are sweeping across northwest and north-central Bihar, with heavy spells reported in West and East Champaran, Siwan, and Gopalganj. Southwestern districts like Bhojpur and Buxar, as well as northeastern pockets in Araria and parts of Seemanchal, are also experiencing intermittent to prolonged downpours. Localized thunderstorms with lightning remain a risk, particularly in areas where convective clouds continue to build through the afternoon.
In Patna, the rainfall, which began in the early hours with moderate intensity, intensified around mid-morning and has persisted, affecting normal life. Commuters have been navigating slowed traffic amid water accumulation around low-lying junctions. The cloudy, rain-cooled conditions have kept daytime temperatures in check but maintained high humidity levels.
The IMD has advised residents to take standard monsoon precautions—carry umbrellas or raincoats, avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding, and stay indoors during lightning activity. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously as reduced visibility and slippery road conditions persist.
Agriculture officers say the rain is beneficial for paddy and other kharif crops, replenishing soil moisture and reducing irrigation needs, though prolonged waterlogging could harm fields in poorly drained zones.
