Patna: Police in Patna have launched an investigation after the half-burnt body of a woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase on the banks of the Punpun river.
The suitcase was discovered late on Thursday night near Rajendra College in the Didarganj area, after villagers noticed a foul smell. According to officers, the remains are believed to be that of a woman aged around 28, and the case may be over a week old.
“The condition of the body is such that identification is proving difficult,” said Awadhesh Prasad, sub-divisional police officer for Fatuha. The woman, dressed in a nightdress, is thought to have been killed, placed in the suitcase, partially set on fire and then dumped.
The body has been sent to Patna’s Nalanda Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination. Police have circulated photographs of the deceased to neighbouring districts and are reviewing CCTV footage from the area for clues.
Villagers from Fatehpur and Madhopur, who first reported the suitcase, suspect foul play. Police say they are “examining all angles” of the case.
