Patna: Passengers in Bihar are set to benefit from a new, faster rail connection as the Vande Bharat Express prepares to run between Danapur and Jogbani, near the India–Nepal border. The semi high-speed train is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, possibly on September 15 or 17 ,alongside the launch of Purnia Airport.
The service promises to make travel to Seemanchal and the Nepal border considerably easier. Jogbani, the last station on the route, allows passengers direct access into Nepal by foot or vehicle. Until now, journeys from Patna to this region have been long and arduous, but the Vande Bharat Express is expected to complete the route in around eight hours, offering passengers modern amenities including luxury chair cars, improved seating, and high-speed internet.
According to sources, the train will stop at Patliputra Junction, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Saharsa, Madhepura, Araria, Purnia, and Jogbani. It is anticipated to depart Jogbani in the morning, reaching Danapur by noon, and return to Jogbani by night. Official timings and final route details are yet to be confirmed.
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express marks the first time Seemanchal will have access to a semi high-speed train. In response to growing passenger demand, the Indian Railways plans to operate a 16-coach configuration. Railway officials have said that the train’s coaches will arrive at the Danapur depot next week, followed by trial runs before schedules are finalised.
The train is expected to have wide-ranging benefits, particularly for Nepali patients travelling to hospitals in Bihar and Patna. It will also support education, employment, and tourism, providing a faster, more comfortable option for commuters.
For Bihar and North India, the new service is seen as a potential game changer, enhancing cultural, social, and economic links with Nepal. The improved connectivity is also expected to boost tourism and trade in the region.
