Patna: A woman was shot dead late on Sunday night in the Muradpur locality under Janipur police station limits in Patna, police said, adding that an investigation is under way.
The deceased has been identified as Mala Devi, 40, a resident of Jehanabad. Her body was recovered around 500 metres from a hotel run by her husband, Subodh Sharma, in Babhanpura, also within the Janipur police station area.
Senior officers, including City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh and Phulwari Sharif sub-divisional police officer Deepak Kumar, reached the spot along with their teams soon after receiving information about the incident.
Police said the body was taken into custody and sent to AIIMS Patna for a post-mortem examination. “We have initiated an investigation with the help of the Forensic Science Laboratory team,” Bhanu Pratap Singh said.
According to preliminary information, Mala Devi had arrived in Babhanpura on Sunday from her parental home in Jehanabad to visit her in-laws. She was shot later that night, police said, without disclosing further details about the circumstances or possible suspects.
Officials said they were examining all angles, including the sequence of events leading up to the shooting, and were awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports to establish the cause of death and identify those responsible.
