Patna: A cinema workshop organised on 25 November 2025 created excitement among students as they got the chance to interact with filmmaker, writer and producer Shruti Anindita Varma. The event was hosted jointly by the Department of Mass Communication and the Department of English Communication and Media. The aim of the session was to help students understand the world of filmmaking and learn from the real experiences of a successful professional.
The workshop began with an interactive question-and-answer segment, where students asked Varma about storytelling, scriptwriting and career opportunities in cinema. She encouraged everyone to stay curious about everyday life and to always keep searching for stories in ordinary moments around them. She told them to trust their instincts while writing and developing ideas, explaining that instincts often guide creators in the right direction.
During the discussion, Varma also asked students to watch films regularly and make it a habit to analyse at least one film every day. According to her, good filmmaking requires not only creativity but also discipline and constant observation of how films are made. Watching films with attention, she said, helps young learners understand camera angles, character psychology, sound, visuals and the emotional flow of a story.
Giving practical advice to aspiring filmmakers, she suggested that the best way to learn is to start making short films, even with basic equipment. She said that small projects help students learn the technical side of filmmaking and give them confidence to take up larger projects in the future. She also motivated them to explore different areas of filmmaking — editing, cinematography, writing, direction and acting — to understand which field suits them best. The workshop ended on an inspiring note, leaving students motivated to pursue their passion for cinema with commitment and curiosity.
