Patna: Patna Women’s College in collaboration with its Department of History, organised a bilingual debate competition on Friday under its Heritage Club, Dharohar. The motion for debate was “India’s Rich Culture is at the Risk of Modernisation,” with discussions held in both English and Hindi categories.
Separate venues were allocated for the two categories, but the debates took place simultaneously. The English panel was judged by Frank Krishner, media consultant expert from the Department of English Media and Communication; Pratibha Singh, assistant professor, Department of History; and Adweetiya Sinha, assistant professor, Department of Political Science. The Hindi debate was assessed by Kumar Dhananjay, head, Department of Hindi; Satyam Kumar, assistant professor, Department of History; and Meenakshi Mishra, assistant professor, Department of Geography.
The competition saw 16 participants in the English category and 12 in Hindi, with each speaker presenting confident arguments and engaging actively in the rebuttal round. Results were announced immediately after the event, with three winners declared in each category.
The programme was coordinated by Swati Sinha, coordinator of the Heritage Club, under the supervision of Sister Celine Crasta A.C., head of the Department of History. The English debate was moderated by Nupur Sinha, a postgraduate student, while the Hindi debate was moderated by Srishti, an undergraduate student. The vote of thanks was delivered by Faiza Ahmad in English and Mandavi Yadav in Hindi.
