Patna: Patna Women’s College (PWC) organized a two-day lecture-cum-workshop on February 5-6, focusing on “Renaissance in India and the Role of Indian Cultural Values.” Sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, the event brought together scholars and students to discuss the relevance of Indian traditions in contemporary society.
The workshop commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Ameeta Jaiswal, Head of the Department of Philosophy. Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C., Principal of PWC, highlighted the need for a cultural renaissance in the modern era.
The first day featured lectures by Dr. Abha Singh, retired professor and former head of the postgraduate department of philosophy at Patliputra University, and Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Singh, dean of humanities and head of the postgraduate department of philosophy at Patna University. Dr. Singh explored the overarching theme of the workshop, while Prof. Singh discussed “The Ethos of Lord Rama for Contemporary Indian Society.”
On the second day, Dr. Shyamal Kishore, controller of examinations at Patna University and former head of philosophy at Patliputra University, spoke on “Erosion of Moral Values Embedded in Indian Society: A Gandhian Panacea.” Swami Bhavatmananda, secretary of the Ramkrishna Mission in Muzaffarpur, delivered a lecture on “Swami Vivekananda for Nation Building.”
Over 100 students from colleges and universities across Bihar participated in an essay and quiz competition held alongside the workshop. Avdhesh Kumar, Sweta Rani, and Palak Kumari secured top positions in the essay competition, while Suhani Kumari, Nikita Arya, and Utsav Roy won the quiz contest.
The workshop provided a platform for students and scholars to engage in discussions on the role of Indian cultural values in contemporary times. The event concluded with reflections on the importance of preserving philosophical traditions while adapting to modern challenges.
