Patna: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), under Patna University, marked Constitution Day on 26 November with a slate of academic and civic activities designed to reinforce constitutional values and democratic responsibility among its community.
The day opened with a mass reading of the Preamble at 1.05pm, conducted simultaneously across the campus. Led by Simran Sinha, co-coordinator of Jagriti – the Constitutional Values & Ethics Club – and assistant professor of political science, the Preamble was read in Hindi to ensure clarity and wider participation. Students, faculty and non-teaching staff joined the recitation, echoing commitments to nyaya (justice), swatantrata (liberty), samata (equality) and bandhutva (fraternity). Organisers said the Hindi reading created a sense of shared purpose and cultural resonance in honour of the Constitution’s framers.
A special lecture followed at 2.30pm in Carmel Hall for non-teaching staff. Delivered by Adweetiya Sinha, coordinator of Jagriti and assistant professor of political science, the session focused on the constitutional and philosophical significance of the Preamble. He urged participants to view constitutional morality as a lived ethic, guiding everyday responsibilities as citizens and public-institution workers.
The commemorations concluded at 4.30pm with an online academic event, “We the People: Echoes of the Constituent Assembly”, also coordinated by Adweetiya Sinha. Students re-enacted the Preamble debates of the Constituent Assembly, bringing to life exchanges involving B.R. Ambedkar and other members. Their performances explored themes of sovereignty, justice, liberty, equality and fraternity, offering a deeper understanding of the deliberative processes that shaped India’s founding document.
Principal Dr Sister M Rashmi AC praised the Department of Political Science and the Jagriti Club for curating events that strengthened constitutional literacy and encouraged enthusiastic participation. The college said the programmes aligned with its mission of holistic education and affirmed its commitment to fostering ethical citizenship and democratic engagement.
