Patna: The Department of Mathematics at Patna Women’s College, an autonomous institution under Patna University, organised a two-day MTTS Overture programme on 27 and 28 January, bringing together students, faculty members and leading academicians to strengthen undergraduate engagement with core mathematical concepts.
The workshop was led by Professor Ajit Kumar of the Indian Institute of Technology and Communication (ICT), Mumbai, and Dr Sachchidanand Prasad, assistant professor at IIIT Delhi. Both resource persons conducted intensive academic sessions aimed at introducing foundational ideas in real analysis, a subject often regarded as challenging but essential for higher mathematical studies.
The inaugural session opened with a welcome song, followed by an address from Dr Shobha Srivastava, dean of the faculty of science, who formally welcomed the guests. Professor Balgangadhar Prasad, former head of the postgraduate department of mathematics at Patna University, attended as the special guest and underlined the importance of mathematics in undergraduate education. He spoke about the subject’s practical applications in everyday life as well as its role in developing analytical and logical thinking.
Participants described the sessions as highly interactive, with complex topics broken down into accessible explanations. Undergraduate students from colleges affiliated with Patna and Patliputra Universities engaged in discussions and problem-solving exercises, fostering a collaborative learning environment. The programme was coordinated by Dr Ravi Kumar, head of the department of mathematics, and concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging the contributions of the speakers and attendees.
