Patna: The Department of Psychology at Patna Women’s College organised a poetry competition themed “The Republic of My Imagination”, bringing together students to reflect on freedom, identity and their personal visions of the nation through verse. The event aimed to provide a creative platform for young voices while encouraging critical and emotional engagement with the idea of a republic.
Faculty members Dr Kumar Dhananjay, head of the department of Hindi, and Dr Dipika Tiwari, assistant professor in the department of English, served as judges. The programme began with a welcome address for the judges and participating students, setting an inclusive and encouraging tone for the competition.
Fourteen students took part, presenting poems that ranged from reflections on independence and equality to intimate explorations of hope and belonging. The participants were marked by enthusiasm and confidence, with many using powerful imagery and personal storytelling to communicate their ideas. The judges later shared constructive feedback and guidance, motivating students to further develop their expressive skills.
The results saw Saeeda Zainab from UG III secure third place, while Priya Dey from UG II finished second. The first prize was awarded to Aayushi Ranjan from UG I for what the judges described as a compelling and imaginative composition. The programme was moderated by Nadia Nabil, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Atufa Kulsum, both postgraduate students, bringing the literary gathering to a warm close.
