Patna: Patna Women’s College, Autonomous, Patna University, marked Republic Day with a thematic dance competition celebrating India’s often-overlooked women freedom fighters. Titled “Women without fame, yet freedom knew their name: Our Unsung Heroes”, the event paid tribute to women who made pivotal contributions to India’s independence. The programme began with homage to Bharat Ratna Karpoori Thakur on his birth anniversary, symbolically placing a lit diya beside his portrait.
Students from various departments brought the theme to life, portraying freedom fighters from different states through a mix of classical and contemporary dance forms. Each performance conveyed courage, resilience, and sacrifice, leaving a deep impact on the audience. The event also welcomed students from the Ragpickers Education & Development Scheme (REDS), adding a meaningful layer of inclusivity to the celebrations.
The competition was judged by Dr. Zareen Fatima, Head of the Economics Department; Dr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor of Sociology; and Ms. Manya, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication. Performances were evaluated on interpretation of the theme, expression, choreography, and overall presentation. Following the performances, Principal Dr. Sister M. Rashmi A.C. praised the participants for their creativity, talent, and ability to honour the legacy of India’s unsung women heroes through dance.
Certificates for the Student Research Project (SRP) 2025–26 and Basic Scientific Research (BSR) 2025–26 were also awarded. The dance competition winners included Code 6 (Department of History) in first place, Code 7 (Department of Education) in second, and a joint third for Code 3 (Department of Commerce) and Code 8 (Department of Political Science). The event reinforced patriotism, celebrated cultural diversity, and shone a spotlight on the invaluable contributions of women in India’s freedom struggle.
