Patna: The Department of Statistics at Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), affiliated with Patna University, organised a webinar on “Empowering Society Through Statistics: Advancing Informed Decisions, Predictive Insights and Sustainable Progress” on July 1 to mark National Statistics Day 2026.
The event commemorated the birth anniversary of statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, whose contributions laid the foundation for modern statistical systems in India.
Focus on Data-Driven Development
According to the organisers, the webinar was held under the guidance of Principal Sister M. Rashmi A.C., whose support contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
The session began with a welcome address by Moon, Head of the Department of Statistics. Nishtha Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor in the department, introduced the resource persons.
Experts Discuss Role of Statistics
The technical sessions featured Amarendra Mishra, former Head of the Department of Statistics and former Dean, Faculty of Science, Patna University; Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, Professor, Department of Statistics, Banaras Hindu University; and Arun Kaushik, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Banaras Hindu University.
The speakers discussed the growing role of statistics in evidence-based policymaking, predictive analysis, sampling techniques and informed public decision-making. They also highlighted the importance of statistical methods in addressing contemporary challenges across governance, research and development.
Participation From Academia
The webinar saw participation from faculty members, researchers and students, providing a platform for discussions on the application of statistics in academic research, public administration and sustainable development.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Monika Rashmi, who acknowledged the contributions of the resource persons, the Principal, participants and the organising team for the successful conduct of the event.
